Nitrates

Would switching from a magnum 350 canister system to sump with fuge lower my nitrates? I have a skimmer but at the momemnt i am trying to get it to pruduce foam

What kind of media are you running in the Magnum? If you use some type of sponge in there to catch debris, then that is a contributing factor for high nitrates.

If you use a fuge with lots of macro, then that will reduce nitrates as well. There are other things to consider like how much you feed as well.

A refugium with growing macroalgae is a very good way to reduce elevated nitrate and phosphate.
