Carbon Group buy..

I'm getting some for myself. Does anyone would like some? I will purchase a 55lbs bag (smallest bag). If a lot of people interested, I will get more..

MARS Reefers use these and they don't have any problem with it.
Here is the link for more info..
http://www.activatedcarbon.com//ConsumerProducts.html

Post here if you are interested. Please DON'T PM .. I have a lot in my inbox that I can't delete. It will fill pretty fast if several people PM me..
Thanks

I'm in. If no one else wants in, I'll split a bag with you. If there is more interest, I think about 10lbs will be good for me.

You can get this local (it says Plesanton, CA.. if so I could probably do with a 55lb bag. Although only pricing they have is for the cost if you have it shipped ($95)

I called them but the guy that can make the decision whether I can pickup or not, is out of the office until Nov 1st. They don't open on the weekend and there is no way I can pick up on the weekday.

I live in pleasanton and can pickup during the week. I'd be interested too. 25 pounds would last for a while.

Look like we need to get at least 2-3 bags .. I'm still waiting for a reply from them about the pick up (save on shipping )...

About the pick up, maybe we should setup the date/location ... Any suggestions??

...

All right, look like we should be able to get a discount if we buy more than 4 bags. I called them again and found out the guy is in China and won't be back until Nov 1st... The girl I talked to said that he does answer email. Hopefully I will get a reply from him soon.

Let me know if you are interested so I will know how many "pallet" I should order.. .... Please only post if you know for sure you gonna get it. I need some but not several hundreds lbs of carbon..

Hmmmm I'm starting to have second doubts on this stuff..

http://www.cichlid-forum.com/article...and_carbon.php
Quote:
Boxes of cheap black shiny bits of material are probably anthracite coal and have little to no adsorption capability.
http://www.bestfish.com/tips/031199.html
Quote:
Are some carbons better than others? Yes, some filter carbons (the coarse, shiny black stuff) are no more than anthracite coal, and have very limited adsorptive properties.
http://www.fabfish.net/aquarium_advice.htm
Quote:
Products like anthracite coal are sometimes sold as carbon (which they are). They are many times located on a store shelf next to activated carbon products. Their lower price may be attractive. Yet, because they have not been activated they are unsuitable for use in the aquarium. Always be sure the product label says the carbon has been "activated." Most aquarists and many distributors are of the opinion that bituminous coal is the better material for making activated carbon because it has proven to be good at removing "gelbstoff." Gelbstoff is a term used to describe large complex organic compounds responsible for yellowing water. However some lignite based carbons are demonstrating a very good ability to out-perform bituminous products.
http://www.pets-warehouse.com/carbon.htm
Quote:
They found that carbon made from hardwood was most effective in removing DOC. Carbon of anthracite coal origin was least effective.
Bottom line, is while this may be uber cheap, this might be a case of "you get what you pay for" type thing.
