URI VHO aquasun

Finnaly got around to building a new hood to acomidate Ice Cap 660. I used 2 super Actinics and 2 aquasun. Tank looks pink to me now??/ I thought that the aquasun was a 10K bulb? Any ideas if I might be color blind. or another brand bulb that will give me more white?

the AquaSun is a 10kk bulb and IME produce a bright white light. as long as your not using more then 4x 48" bulbs with the 660 you shouldn't have any problems with it lighting them correctly and giving the right color from them.

you could try the URI super actinic which is a 12kk 50/50 bulb and see if you like them better with your setup.

I ran URI aquasuns for over 2 years before switching to 14k halides. The aquasuns do seem very pink to me. A friend of mine runs the actinic day bulbs and his tank seems a little whiter/bluer. The first pic is 95 watt aquasuns, the second is 250 halide 14ks.

You be the judge but the VHOs look very pink.

Just seen your post Kieth and that is exactly what I am talking about! Are there no other brand of bulbs that produce a whiter light?

I may just have to bite the bullet and go with MH.......

I have heard coralife makes a VHO bulb but I dont know anything about them. You might research them or try the URI actinic white, they are 12k and to my eyes seem to be a little whiter than the aquasuns.

I'm using two 24" URI VHO bulbs on my 20g long tank. One is the actinic 03, and one is the actinic white (50/50). It's weird, but some days, my tank does look a little on the pink side, but other days, it looks like a nice light blue color. I'm thinking of switching out the actinic white for a Coralife 10000k since I've read that they're a brighter white than the URI aquasuns. FWIW, the URI box for the actinic white says that it's a 12000k color temp. Here's a recent picture for your own judgement:
