Sorry to hear that. I sincerely worry about this too.
What was he thinking when he pured it in? I don't mean that in a mean way, sometimes they think they are doing something wonderful.

I have a dedicated fish room but you never know what kids will do.

You may want to do a larger water change. Try posting this in the Reef chemistry forum and see if you should be adding some kind of dechlorinator or Amquel .
Any idea how much went in ?

At 80 degrees most if not all of the bleach will evaporate in 24 hr. in an open system. I think the damage is done. That being said i would do water changes daily for a week.

An 18 year old?

Do water changes. Lots of 'em.
The damage is done. Hopefully the impact will be minimal.

I concur, do daily water changes. Maybe you had algae and he wanted to "clean" up the tank?

I wish you the best of luck working things out with your child. I'm guessing there was a problem before the bleach incident.

Your tank will probably be better now than it ever was. I treat my NSW with Clorox. The bleach will leave on it's own or all the methods mentioned will work including carbon.

Curious to see how your tank is doing. I hope good. Bleach must not be to bad. I have seen pics of PaulB's tank and it is gorgeous.
P.S. How is your daughter doing?

I guess I'm familiar with the little guys, 2 and 3 years. Maybe an 18 yr old is being vengeful. Sorry to hear that, that can be worse than the tank problem.

best of luck for both problems.

Hey Henry.....for what its worth....medically speaking Clorox bleach has been so tested, retested, reformulated and de-funk-ified over the years that there is very little that ER's do when a child drinks it.....it's almost virtually harmless...I think the methods that have been suggested....H2O changes, Charcoal, etc. will work just fine !!!

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions,I did'nt lose everything all of my Acro's and a few soft corals and a large closed brain. I changed the carbon in one of my filters, did a water change and added de-chlorinator. so far the corals that are left look to be doing fine. As far as my daughter well I hope she gets the help she needs.
