Need help w/ Calerpa

I put some calerpa in my main display tank about 6 months ago and it is taking over. Can someone tell me how to get rid of this stuff? I pull it out, but it's just not working. I am about ready to get some new LR cause it's everywhere. Thanks.

Good luck. I have some in my display tank (took over another tank and it was already in there). I trim it every week or two to keep it under control. I fill a coffee mug every time. I have managed to keep in on one piece of rock.

Good for excess nutrients, though!

You must have a nutrient issue. You can run some phosphban, tweak you skimmer or get a bigger one, feed your fish less, use RO/DI, and the caulerpa will get starved out.

I pulled most of it out by hand, waited two weeks, and then burned any roots that appeared to be coming back (took rock out of water and burned with lighter). After doing this a few times, I believe I am now caulerpa free in my main tank.

Thanks for the advice. Something needs to happen. Wow what a bad idea it was for me to put caulerpa in my display tank. At least I know what not to do now...

yup, i told my bro not to put the caulerpa on his rocks... now he's crying about it. best thing is to just burn the roots w/ a mini torch if you want to be 100% rid of it.

I wouldn't bother with a tang...I tried two different kinds and couldn't get them to eat it. Some do, but there's little certainty. I understand that Foxfaces are more reliable that way but they might nosh on zoanthids if you have those. I finally got rid of it by carefully pulling the stuff off the rock...It's mose effective if you follow the runners, pulling them off carefully where they have their anchor roots. It will take a little time, but you'll eventually get rid of it. Then, you'll never want to look at it again.

get your phosphates down, when our phosphates are at 0 the stuff goes away. if your phosphates go up again it will come back from nowhere.
