Scoop that poop! Maybe you are immune to the smell, but I can bet even the wood smells some. I would clean it up every morning and every night.

Yeah yeah, it's gone now and I bought a trash can to store it in outside. I don't care if the wood smells, that patio is trashed anyways.

I have a fenced in back yard with neighbors & 4 dogs..Yes 4 I scoop poop every day & my system works well.I have a smaller bucket that I line with a wal-mart bag.i go around & scoop poop into the bucket.I have a larger bucket that I turn upside down & place over the smaller bucket. This keeps the smell way down,no flies,no poop in yard,no problems. On trash day I tie the bag shut & place in trash.Start with a new bag each week. This has worked very well for me,give it a try.

When we sold our last house, I swear the patio looked AWFUL. The wood looked old and almost rotted

Before we put it on the market, we had it pressure washed and it looked BRAND NEW!!

You have an awfully nice patio area, get it pressure washed and go out and enjoy it!

Well stain it and clean it up some. Wouldn't be much work. Maybe your sweetie would want to go out there and revive the plants etc. It has great potential.

LOL! Too simplistic. This is a much more refined crowd.
I'm surprised w/ the 4th just around the corner, nobody's come up w/ any creative pyrotechnic means of disposing of the problem.
I mean, come Monday, you'll have a heck of an excuse to do all sorts of interesting things.

Not pyrotechnic, but the crowd still gets to ooh and ahh as it arcs gracefully across the sky.

Today was day one of scooping poop. It isn't as bad as I thought and it doesn't smell out there at all even when there is poop. My dog doesn't poop very much, maybe it is the Canadae. All this worry and it isn't that bad

You don't have to read it. In fact posting to it only makes it longer.

LOL, I can't believe some of the posts here. I'd tell that neighbor to get a fan and blow the smell back if they didn't like it.

Anyhow, for a constructive suggestion that I didn't see in 4 pages. After your dog goes just spray it down with the hose while it's soft. It'll break up into tiny pieces and fertilize your grass and likely wouldn't smell at all anymore.

Did you look at his back yard?

Jeepers creepers folks- I can't believe the responses to this!
I step away for a couple of months and look what happens!

Picking up poop daily is mandatory. A small garbage can with a strong liner will cost you maybe $5, a scooper another $10.

Do you never use your back yard yourself? Do you enjoy living in a plot of land that stinks so terribly that neighbors are forced to complain?

Do you have no understanding of the life cycles of animal parasites or no worries about your animal infecting and reinfecting itself day after day? Where do you think worms come from?

I would not allow one of my animals to even walk in that area much less live there. Allowing that type of condition to develop is irresponsible and totally the type of laziness that gives all dog owners a bad name.

Cripes.

Nope.

I can't smell it when I'm out there (which I never am). Even when I did go out there it just smells like wilderness to me, not poop.

Worms typically come from ingesting fleas. I have quite a good understanding of that cycle, being a biologist and all. Given the amount of time he is out there he comes into way more contact with animal feces on any of the number of parks that we go to. There is horse dung, cow dung, other dog poop, etc.

He is out there 5 minutes a day total, only the time he needs to use it for going to the bathroom.

I take great pride in how I have raised my dog. Most people who live on country plots of land do what I do. They NEVER clean their areas up... my area is smaller so I cleaned it up every 2 months. That apparently wasn't good enough so I clean it up daily now. I think you are overreacting and need to get off of your high horse.

This thread has degraded into accusations against me and that is not why I started it. I did not ask for anyone's thoughts on me as a dog owner or if I should clean it up. I started this thread to resolve the problem and everyone has taken that to mean I want to know if I should clean it up. I appreciate all of the CONSTRUCTIVE comments that I got.
