$ Question
About how much should I expect to pay for a 55 gallon reef-ready tank? - Just for the tank itself...NOTHING else (stand canopy etc. ) How about a used one? Do acrylic tanks suck?

If you are buying brand new I would look at getting a 75 gallon. It is the same length and Height but is 5 inches wider. Those 5 inches will make all the differance. But to answer your question I can't get a reef ready in my area, but a normal one is $90. I just drill my own tanks.

You will be better off with a 120g RR.

what ever you decide make sure of the type of glass tempered or not ect. acrylic is easily scratched. what you get affects what you can do later.

Acrylic doesn't suck but is easily scratched. The positives are clarity and light weight.

I assume your shopping in Spokane? Thank God you don't have to shop the Missoula market. If you have an excuse to hit Seattle you might be able to find a better deal.

I've always used this site (http://www.aquaticworld.net/aqprices.asp) to get a general idea for prices. They seem to have good prices so you'll probably pay a little more regardless of where you get it.
I too would recommend not getting a 55g. I would get a 75g or 90g if possible. The 75g is the same as a 55g only 6" wider, 18" instead of just 12", and the 90g is the same footprint as the 75g but a few inches taller. The 55g will work but it's so narrow that it's very difficult to work with and a 75g/90g is so much easier yet not that much more expensive. The extra $100 would give you so many more possibilities and long-term usage it's well worth it.

Is there a reason you picked a 55 to start with or do you already have it and want to know if you got a good deal?

I have a 55 that is not drilled right now. I want to buy a drilled tank and stand and use my current 55 gallon aquarium as a sump/fuge.

Why not drill the 55 yourself, it is not as tough as you might think. If you have a dremel you can do it. Here are a few threads, oh and I just did this yesterday and it was wasy, took about 15 minutes to drill a hole

Any other questions just ask.

Yeah...it was bought at Walmart as a kit. I found a 75 RR tank for 135 bucks and an oak stand for 165. Im going to buy them and a rubbermaid sump.

Sounds like a good idea. But I don't think that all the glass on a walmart tank is tempered. Maybe you can use that 55 as a remote sump.

On the bottom panel it has a sticker that reads "All panels tempered glass do NOT drill"
