Installing Sea Swirls

Just got 2 sea swirls for a 220 gal Oceanic. Looking for picture of set up. I know I can use either PVC, or hose. I'm planning on using them right off the return flows.

Which setup do those of you that have sea swirls suggest? Can you post a picture of the sea swirl plumbing?

Thanks!

I don't have a photo, but I used hose because I wanted to be able to move the Sea Swirls around with more flexibility depending on my aquascaping and corals at the time.

I did the same as joey...I ran hard pipe up and then went to flexible tubing to the sea swirl, incase I wanted to move them around. Sorry no pics either...at work right know ;-)

That's a good idea. Never thought of relocating them. Where do you have yours located?

I was thinking of putting them in corners beside the overflow boxes, but was thinking the overflow boxes might interfere with the flow.

Anyone have a pic?

mine sit on the outside of the center section. I have a six foot tank and they move together from side to side. One is hitting the surface and the other one, I dropped the 90 down further into the water with a coupling to get movement in the middle to bottom section of the water. works good this way.

That sounds like a good idea dropping one down a little to get all levels covered!

I have no pictures but mine are in back about ten inches in from my over flows. They work great! they are 3/4" plumbed with spa flex.

The Sea Swirl is strictly an oscillating return device which circulates the outflow water from a pump or canister in the areas you direct it.

On the 180 I bought from another reefer, the sea swirl was installed in the middle of the back of the tank, and a separate pump sends the water up to it from the sump through a flexible clear hose. On this tank, both holes in each of the 2 overflows are used as drains to the sump. It's noisy and I don't like it; but, that's how the other person configured it.

Overall, I think the Sea Swirl does a nice job of stirring up the water in addition to the 3 power heads I have. I would consider buying another one in the future.

Best of luck,

Roy

Still looking for a picture of the installation.

I don't know if this will help but here's a picture of my tank with the 2x1" SS's mounted on top of the Eruo bracing.

Let me know if you need more detailed pics...

I recently installed two 3/4 inch SW to my 180 gallon tank, using flexible pvc. I used a coupling to my return and then glued the flexible pvc to the coupling, because I have a three sided view of my tank I have a hanging sheet of plywood suspended in my hood holding my lights, I had the flexible pvc go up on the top of that plywood and over to where I installed each of the SW so that I don't have that pvc in the area of my lights. I think a friend of mine took pictures as he is working on a new article and will be including some pictures in his article, I will check with him and if he does I will post them later.

Golfish...Thanks for the pic. Do you have them plumbed in line with the returns? I'm thinking of just putting them in the return line and eliminating the return flow lock tubing.

It looks like the flexible PVC will be the best way.

Great! Would like to see the pictures. I guess I'm having a hard time with installation because the directions do not have any pictures.
