dooh!

My weekend visit to Vegas cost me $500. I know you think I blew it in a casino, but I blew it on a new 125 gallon tank. How does this tie into Vegas....... well I took my wife to Sharks Reef. Ends up she wants more room for her aggressive fish to swim, translation she wants more fish. My neighbor works in a wood shop and is willing to let me raid the scrap bin and use his tools so that I/we can build our own stand and canopy.

purchase prices:
tank $250
40 lbs sand $35
salt mix for 150 gallons $36
budget for stand materials $100

oh yeah a polyp rock for me $36

then the tax man

I don't feel too bad about the whole deal

any comments?

you accomplished quite a lot there, mike! yes, we all like to know the sources for "finds" in this town, as they are often rare.

i picked up a little porcelain crab and sexy shrimp at trop-aquarium on sat. for about $6 a piece! thought that was a good deal. they are in my nano now and my clown doesn't quite know what to do with that crab in his anemone

Yeah! What she said!!

Sounds like quite a good time at least. Maybe not to the pocket book but you know it's worth it!

Mike: I grew up in St.George and all my friends and family still live there, any relation to a Burton Bracken? He was my classmate at Dixie High before it split and I went to Pine View.

I also was the founder/original owner of Animal Attractions, a pet store in St.George that was just recently closed down by the (i think) 4th owner. Dont know if you've ever been there, I havent been back since i sold it in 97'.

Anyway, nice score on the tank, fill us in on where you got it, I actually drove to california to purchase my tank as I couldnt find one i liked here.

Im working on photos now but can't seem to get the new rock in focus. My little digital camera doesn't have a very good macro setting. I my have to break out my 35mm and have the photos saved onto disc.

The beginning of my reef tank isin my photo gallery, and I'll have to download some photos of Jen's tank.

Shak
I did shop at Animal Attractions, but never for fish fresh or saltwater. It did close down recently but had really gone downhill for sometime.

The new tank is a 125 rectangle from Sue's Pet Castle, he said the manufacture is no longer making that tank and he is closing them out now. I will take pictures as we build the new stand and canopy.

You got that from Clay huh? Hope he cut you a good deal, he always seemed like a scammer when they were my competition (though i may be biased since i didnt care for Sue or her son).

I actually called him ealier this year to get a quote for an AllGlass Tank since no one in vegas carries that brand, he was pretty cool on the phone, said he had just repossessed his store from the peopled they sold it to since they had run it into the ground and not paid them. Ahhh the life of a pet store owner, how I miss those days (not!).

I dont know if you've had a chance to look at some of my tanks in town, most were in parade of homes houses, and I put 4 tanks 600 gallon+ in Ence developments, and in Jay Ence's house. I wonder if you've had a chance to go to the Ivins town hall, I put a 900 gallon "L" tank in there about 9 years ago, wonder if its still there.

Anyway, glad to see you in the forums, maybe i'll see if at the next meeting if i ever make it to one again, life has been busy for me lately.
