Question Hurricane coming = What to do?

Other than using a generator and/or Bateery powered pump?
Should I do water changes?
Francis is coming and all I have for my 36 gal reef/fish is two battery powered air pumps.
What should I do other than stealing a generator from the A__holes who bought up to 5-10 each from the stores?

Thanks in advance for any help.

i plan on daisy-chaining 3 ups' together and running 3 pumps (6 airstones) into my tank until i can get back to my house.

I've considered taking my 2 clowns with me in a small tank with existing tank water and using airstones.

get a power converter that you can hook up in your car. it will convert dc to ac and then you can plug your powerheads or something into it. Just start your car and let it run every now and then so the battery doesn't go dead. oh, and good luck, this one looks like it could be bad.

Ha! I just moved from Stuart about a year ago. I worked for four or five years at the Kinko's up in Juno beach.. Fishing still suck in the inlet?

Take care guys- Don't make me come down there with a kiddie pool and a generator

If it were me, I would bag up which corals and fish you value most and get out of town. I would NOT be trying to ride out Frances. That is one bad@** storm.

Get a deep cycle marine battery and bilge pump. Pump should run off battery for a good # of hours.

Probably if you cycle the pump on for 15 - 30 mins at a time every hour or 2, it should help keep some oxygen in water - I hope.

Good luck!

I just went 9 days with no power and a generator cause of Charley...Run your main circulation pump from overflow and pump to skimmer, Run alot of fans, blow fan across top of water and down side of glass and thru cabinet. Replace evaporation as needed, you want as much evaporation as you can get, this is what cools the water. I started running indirect lighting (hood up) just actnics after about 4 days for a couple hours. Only feed every few days or when your fish start picking on other live animals because they are hungry. Freeze 16 ounce bottles of
I ran all this plus a full size freezer, tv, a lamp at night and fan for bedroom on a 5000kw gen. Have lots of gas cans and ear plugs to sleep with. Good luck to all....

I hope Frances continues to weaken, but boy oh boy, that's one big hurricane. The very best of luck to all of you in the hurricane's path. We have you in our thoughts and prayers.

Thanks to all for your comfort, but the uncertainty of this storm just got me nuts, it has slowed down now, here in Boca Raton one gust came through, i'd say 35 mph now were waiting for the other bands to come through, still don't know were the eye is going to make land fall, since it slowed down thinking is it may go a little more west, that is not good, there saying tomorrow we should get gail force or hurricane winds for at least 10 hours.

And go where?? Can you imagine the millions of people living in FL leaving at the same time?? It would take weeks to evacuate the entire state

Had them before and they will come again. When you are freazing in February, shoveling snow, and trying to get your car keys through a frozen key slot with 20F below windchills, remember that is the small price we pay to be here at the same time floating in the pool with 80 F weather

We do appreciate the concerns though.
