Question Home Theater Room

Does anyone have floor plans for a home theater room with seating for 8-12 people? I called a local audio-video chain (Myer Emco), and they have nothing prepared (...come sit with our experts). The guy did say I should size the room so that the length and width are not evenly divisible, i.e., not 10x20. Then I find this 18x36 room which breaks that rule.

You should not have any problems with imaging in any size room as long as your speakers are placed well. I can't really help you much since I don't know the room or the equipment, but I get great imaging from my speakers in a room where the TV is in a corner and the room is not even square.

The 'not evenly divisible' rule is to eliminate standing waves. You'll probably have lumpy bass response in room like that (worst case scenario would be a square room). The 'best' dimensions, theoretically at least, would use the golden mean. That is, room dimensions that scale 1.62 : 1 : 0.62. That'll prevent room modes from stacking up pretty well and help even out bass response. In any case, you'll probably want a parametric EQ on your sub. Real world room acoustics are very difficult to predict due to door openings, hallways, walls that aren't infinitely rigid, etc.

Also having things in the walls such as frames help eliminate standing waves. Worst case scenario would be a square room with bare walls.

I don't have plans but I do expect an invite and lots of free beer when it's done.

Ace, you have a standing invite, and can bring that case of German Octoberfest beer you'll be owing me later this year.

There is a guy who did a lot of documentation, and work, on the Tivo Web project. Steve Jenkins has a lot of docs on his page for this wonderful product, AND he built his own home theater room.

Here is the info on his home theater room

Here is the info he has on Tivo Web.

Well, time will tell who gets what for free. I would mention what we are talking about but I think you'd rather keep this thread opened.

Shhhh, you'll wake up BrianD. Or worse, his new stand-in: beerguy. Wouldn't that be ironic!

Brian is a pussycat. I don't about beerguy, though..

By the way, good luck in the theater room. If I ever build a house it will be a requirement along with a fish room.
