clown trigger and lionfish?

Planning the fish population for my FOWLR. I would like a lionfish, a triggerfish and an eel. This will be a 130G, 60x26x18, and concerned if they can co-exist. Also, what is the best skimmer available? From what I've read and gathered on this site, these fish are messy and I want to make sure that the enviroment there in is healthy, and safe. What other fish could I consider with these 'fish' I mentioned and what order should they be introduced. Appreciate the info, this site and its members/posts are a very large source of info for me. Thanks.

well as long as they are the same size they will be just fine and another thing the other fish you may add later will also have to be around the same size and must be able to fend for themselves.

Yes the fish will be fine togethter.Puffers are real nice same with parrot fish. I would add the clown trigger last. The lion you don't have to worry about anyone picking on him, except another lyon. With agressive fish its hard to tell how they will act in your tank. they behavior varys with each fish i noticed. I had one clown trigger so agressive would bite me everytime real hard. and others run when my hand would go in the tank. View the fish alot at the LFS before purchase for behavior.

I disagree,

Many trigger fish will pick the fin off a lionfish, stressing it to death...puffers do this also.

yes i totally agree w/ balor, most puffers will pick at lions, and some triggers will also, putting a puffer w/ a lion is a BIG no no

a trigger and a lion fish in a 25, thats plain wrong.. they would have much better chance of less problems in a larger tank but the trigger should definately never be in a 25 gallon..

Larger puffers would nip a lot less than juveniles or sharpnoses. I had a dogface and a lion together for years. The puffer was the last introduced and was 5", lion was 6". I currently have a Blue-Spotted Toby, and there is no question that he would nip at a Lion.

Give it time, they won't be OK.

Clown triggers can be fine for years, and then turn on you. You'll know that the fish has turned when the lionfish is dead; you don't get much warning. Most triggers are not good tankmates for lionfish.

You didn't mention what species of trigger you would like to put in with a lion. Triggers and lions generally don't make good tank mates. Although lions are predators they are not very aggressive and just won't be able to fend off many of the trigger species who are experts at getting past the lions defences. Most triggers can't resist the long fins of the lion and will nip him into a slow death.

Maybe a Niger Trigger, Pink-tail, Crosshatch or a Blue throat. The risk of nipping is still there. Forget Clown, Assasi, Undulated, Rectangle, Queen and the likes. Even a Huma you may have problems. I'm sure they have been kept at one point together in someones tank, but I'm sure many Lionfish have fallen prey to triggers in most others' tanks. To me, not worth the risk. There are plenty of alternative tankmates for triggers or lions.

I have had 2 large Lions, large Clown Trigger, large Zebra Moray, Fire Coral Moray (beautiful), med Picasso Trig, along w/ the usual yellow tangs, PBT, etc... In my 140 gal for 2 + years. Great combination. No problems. Except... when the back part of the center top brace on my GLASS tank separated, which consequently alowed the entire back of my tank to blow out!!! Not a pretty site. I have an acrylic tank now.

Don't do it. Don't be one of those people. Triggerfish and lions are not compatable. Triggers are very curious and aggresive. They llove to tug and pull on things (they often come shipped with rubberbands in their bags). Lions on the other hand are very docile and ornamental. The trigger is bound to be drawn to the extravagant fins of the lion. Its simply not a good idea. Please remember, people do alot of things they shouldnt. Sometimes it works, but you never see the ones that dont because the people who fail dont brag about it and theres no living proof to showcase.

Im not even goin to mention the triggerfish/lionfish combo as I can see many ppl are against it (so am i)! But what type of eel were u gunna keep with your lionfish, and what type of lionfish, dwarf or fullsize? I ask because if it is a peaceful eel like my beloved snowflake and goldspot, it should be fine but some of the more agressive eels could be capable of attacking your lionfish. I know that it isnt rare, but one of my friends had a dwarf lionfish killed by a dragon eel. If it was a volitan with a snowflake i think your tank would do fine! Also if you are looking for a protien skimmer to handle these messy fish i would suggest the aqua c EV series, this is what i have on my Volitans/snowflake/goldspot and it handle there waste extremely effective.
