Feeding horses?

Hi All,

I have 2 seahorses that I just purchased a few days ago. I feed them live brine, but they seem to be always looking for more food. I feed them once a day. Is this enough? What other food do they eat?

Brine shrimp is NOT sufficient nutritionally for seahorses. You must AT LEAST enrich them with Selcon or Zoecon or similar source of HUFAs (highly unsaturated fatty acids). What species/size are they? Try offering fresh- or salt-water ghost shrimp of the appropriate size. If you are persistent, you may be able to train them to eat frozen mysis shrimp. Hikari and PE (Piscine Energetics) brands are popular. Mysis can make up the majority of the seahorse diet. The problem with wild caught seahorses is that they can be very difficult to train to eat frozen foods.

There is a Care Guide in the Library section of www.seahorse.org, a FAQ section and various articles on food and nutrition. These may be helpful to you.
