Question help with new SH set up

hi everyone. I am just getting ready to set up a 30 g AGA tank specifically for SH. i was thinking of going with an eheim filter placed behind the LR and aimed to keep the food in suspension longer along with a hang on skimmer. I want to keep algae's in the display tank along with either gorgonian or sponges to let the SH hitch onto. Is this ok? i plan on using live sand as well. lighting will probably be PC's. is there anything else that i am missing? any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. oh and i am definitely going with CB ones. any suggestions on what kind? I would love a pair of yellows or orange if possible. thanks

sounds good to me. your set-up is similar to mine (29 and 44). make sure you have some height, about 2-3 times the length of the adult seahorse. try to minimize the bubbles in the tank from the skimmer. many seahorse keepers seem to like the BakPak, Remora and Prizm HOT skimmers.

I like to run, as well, a small power filter without media for greater surface agitation (e.g., Liberty 100 on my 29). you also have the option to add mechanical or chemical media when/if needed. I would do this in addition to the spray bar or cannister outlet behind the rock. if you have cb, they will probably pick the frozen food (mysis) off the sand.

cb have been scarce, but erectus is my recommendation for the hardiest. as long as you can get them CB, barbs or kuda are nice. reidi are the most colorful, hands down, but they are quite difficult to find cb.

good luck and have fun!

If you are looking for a brightly colored hearty pair you might consider OceanRiders Sunfires.....they are available in yellow and orange. They are gorgeous, bright, very hearty, active and good eaters. They are however pricey but worth every penny IMO.

They are not currently available but I believe will be soon.

HTH,

Leslie
