I need a stereo tech.

Hello RC
I need help with my Receiver, the other day I went to turn up the volume ,and not loud at all and all of the sudden it stopped working ,the digital read out or screen, what ever ya call it just went blank and the sound went dead, not even a hiss when ya crank it ??,all of the other LED lights still work, just the screen that tells ya the stereo's function went blank.I cleared the memory to see if that would help but got nothing, still no screen or sound.
I also unhooked everything and plugged it back in and still nothing.
I have had the unit now for five years
Sony STR-DE915

check fuses, both the ones in the fuse panel in the car, and there might be a fuse on the back of the HU.

Nevermind. I see that it is a home audio reciever. I am afraid I can't provide much help. It sounds like it may have died, but it could be something simple. Look on the back and see if there are any fuses to check. If it is a major problem, I would just replace it. You can buy a much better reciever than that for not a lot of money. Home theater technology has progressed a lot in the past 5 years.

wow, sorry, was half asleep.

Its going to be hard for you to repair it. It sounds like a short or otherwise bad circuit. Id check for any fuses it might have either on the back or inside. It might have possibly overheated also. Make sure you clean all the dust out of it.

Sorry
I don't have the answer for you but you can learn a lot from the reviews it recieved on Audio Review.com
It seems that your reciever has some heat/circut board issues.
Here's the link if you want to read for yourself http://www.audioreview.com/PRD_11881...x.aspx#reviews

WOW-thanks for the link, from what I can tell it would cost be more to fix this unit than what it is worth,I can buy a new receiver for $400 +/- or pay maybe $200 to fix the one I have.
So whats a good receiver ??
thanks

I bought a intergrated Onkyo amp and tuner in 87 and the darn thing won't die. I want some of the new technology that has come out in the last 15 years but my system still kicks a** after all of this time. As a matter a fact I still have friends ask where they can get the same system. I have to tell them in a time machine becuase it is the same system I have had since the 80's. At first they don't believe me then they tell me it should have died after the parties we through using it. New one are selling for a grand and I only paid 600 for this one including a pair of speakers. It's gonna be hard forking out that kind of cash when the time comes but if it will last another 15 to 20 years its money well spent.

what do you want it to do for you?
there was a pioneer elite 35tx theater receiver for sale (used of course) over on another forum for something like 350 or 375.
either way, I would shop used as you can find a better quality receiver for less than new, but that's just me.

Ya I'll do some checking around, this really chaps my ***,I bought a Pioner stereo/cd player for my car a couple of years ago,and it went out something like three months after the warenty did,now my home stereo.
I remember the stereo my mother bought when I was a kid, heck even the one my grandparents had lasted YEARS,I would chuckle when I would see this old thing, now who is chuckling.
seems to me that things cost alot more and last alot less,
Your Onkyo for example,I'm sure you'll have it for another 20 years ...
