To cycle or not to cycle....?
Hey guys,
I just recently had a tank made. A custom 2.5g. My question is this: If I take 2.5 gallons out of my existing tank, only used cured live rock, but purchase 3 lbs of live sand, will the "new" live sand cause a cycle? Or will the existing water, and cured rock negate a cycle? Thanks in advance!

You probably won't have a cycle but give it a week anyway. In the greater scope of things a week is nothing.

if it is recently purchased live rock then there will be some cycling in any case I wouldn't waste the money purchasing live sand--just take a cup from the other tank and seed new argonite.

It is similar to moving a tank. There may be a mini cycle that takes a day or two (it that long). But like Agu said, give it a little time to stabalize and get the sand up to speed.

Great guys, thanks to all! After I posted I thought of just seeding some new sand with a cup of the existing sand. I keep forgetting it's only 2 gallons! LOL!
Thanks again!
