NO worries, I am too. I actually laughed quite a bit when my wife called me (she was laughing too)...
"Remember that really pretty fish you just bought and love?" "Yeah...." "The anemone's eating it."

It sucked it in fairly quickly I guess, because not an hour after I left the house my wife called and started taking pictures.

You said you just bought it, maybe it was already on its way out. I would not expect a BTA catch/kill a healthy flame angel that size.

I wouldnt be too surprised if your GSM had something to do with it too.

It was about 2 weeks ago, the 28th of December, and it looked pretty good to me. I wouldn't expect it either, maybe something tagged it good before the anemone got to it.

They all seemed like fairly happy tankmates; my damsel was actually the most aggressive towards the angel.

If the fish was fairly new, I doubt the anemone was responsible for the fish's death. A BTA can certainly consume a fish, but as was already mentioned, a BTA is generally little danger to a healthy, larger fish. Small fish, and some bottom dwellers might bolt or blunder into a BTA, causing their deaths, but this is even pretty rare. These anemones just really aren't fish killers.

Ah well, since the tax return is on the way, I'm thinking about either (1) filling the tank with coral and buying new lights or (2) upgrading the tank size...

I just look at it this way... We are creating a enviroment that we want to be realistic so you have been successful. "The circle of life"

my understanding is that the carpet anemones are fish killers. the others it seems are less interested in fish. am i correct?

I dont understand how you can laugh at that to be honest. You just lost a beautiful flame angel. Bet you wouldnt laugh if I threw one of my 18" aggresive fish in there to devour your whole tank. Its circle of life like someone said right?

well that would be fallacious reasoning. intent must be considered here for one. second, your analogy would only work if he intentionally put the flame in there to be consumed. these animals consume each other in nature so what was his crime?

its a risk anyone takes whhen they put anemones in a tank with anything but clowns. There is nothing you can do about it. I had a carpet eat a naso and a racoon butterfly before I decided it needed a dedicated tank.
