Remove any dead or dying material. Do water change, Run carbon and polypad.

my tanks been up for a few months the only thing dying in my tank is a few plants looking a little droopy and brown because i cut back on lights to keep algea down

what do you all have in the tank? the ammonia is comming from somewhere. for now use amaquil+ or prime to lower it.
what is your filtration like? what kind of fish? how big and how many? how much do you feed? basically tell us about your setup.

More importantly than removing ammonia is to find out why you have ammonia. In general, you need to test for nitrite whenever you see ammonia greater than zero. You may have to large a bioload on this tank.
