I added an airstone hooked to a fairly large air pump and that helped. Mine gets a black film on everything too.

I had the same thing happen but it turned out to be that i had a bacterial infection in the ro membrane. It left a musty smell as well.

I used to have this problem. I would get it after emptying the container and leaving it wet but covered. Now I either leave the lid open a little bit to let it dry, or keep water in it. This worked for me.

Floodinator: I had a brown slime from using Oceanic Salt. Once I mixed it with RC (eventually I will be using 100% RC), it stopped happening. What salt are you using?

Sorry, gone for a while. I've been using Oceanic too. There's a Mag 5 for circulation and a heater running. Hope it's not the salt, I just bought 3 200gal. buckets.

My understanding when I researched about the Brute cans, is only certain colors had the "food grade" rating. Yellow, gray and white are the food grade rated, other colors dont have this rating. What color is your Brute can?

I don't think the Brute containers come in green or brown.

Blue, Red, White, Yellow and Gray.........

If you can think of it in plastic, these guys probably have it........

I have two of the brutes set next to each other with a pvc line between them, the RO/DI water drips in and fills both cans, one has an airstone in it and I have noticed no odor, the other has no airstone and when it gets low it smells like feet...

Thanks for all the feedback (been off line for awhile). But it sounds about 50/50 that some folks notice an odor while others don't. Bottom line seems to be that its not detrimental if it does in fact occur.

Regards,

Plasma
