15mg/h of Ozone
I have set up a Ozone generator on my reef, it has been up for 3 weeks, my ORP stays at 280, I set it up for about 15 to 25 mg/h for each 25 gallons, my cuestion is if its safe to raise the dosage?
Any help will be apreciated. BTW its a Redsea 200. Thanks.

I also just added ozone to my tank about 2 weeks ago. I have the sanders 50mg unit operating at almost its lowest setting. My ORP without ozone was at about 320. My ACIII turns the ozone on if the ORP falls below 380 and turns off at 400. My ozone is tied into the intake of my euro reef skimmer. So far I have had zero issues and everything in my tank looks like it is doing really well.
I am not surprised that your ORP levels are so low considering your total system size and how much ozone you are dosing. For my setup, I found dosing in small quantities is much better then large quantities. At first I set mine to 50mg/h and my ORP levels hardly budged. My skimmer went nuts and I could REALLY smell the ozone. Dosing in low quantities seems to be much for efficient, at least for my setup. You might want to reduce the amount of ozone your ozonizer is generating and see what happens? |

My God your water most be better than the ocean!!!
When I first set up mine ORP meter I begin with 150. I allready try on lowering to 10 and 5 mg/h.

It takes a while for the orp meter to read correct, so that is why it started at 150. What is you ozone set up?
My orp without ozone is 365. |

![]() My Ozone is set up with the skimmer air intake. I also change the media (carbon and phosban) yesterday and again drops to less than 100. What Iam doing wrong?

Remember that the goal with ozone is (or should be) to keep the water clear, not to attain any particular ORP level. If it is clear now, I would not raise the ozone addition rate. My ORP hovers around 300 mV when using ozone.
I discuss ozone in these articles: Ozone and the Reef Aquarium, Part 1: Chemistry and Biochemistry http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-03/rhf/index.php Ozone and the Reef Aquarium, Part 2: Equipment and Safety http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-04/rhf/index.php Ozone and the Reef Aquarium, Part 3: Changes in a Reef Aquarium upon Initiating Ozone http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-05/rhf/index.php

The flesh air and big skimmer made a huge difference. Randy posted some great articles on ozone. Like he said you shouldn't use ozone to get to a certain orp. And you sure don't need ozone to get a high orp. I ran ozone for years with a ozone reactor. I tried just using a skimmer but it hurt the skimmer performance too much. |
