Battery Backup

What do you keep on a battery backup? I was thinking heater and powerheads, just wanted to see what others are doing.

Also, does anybody have any recommendations for a battery backup unit?

i thought about getting one of these but it's out of my budget. i ended up buying a few battery powered air pumps from AZOO instead. figured the aeration would be fine for short outages. i don't get too many outages but they usually don't last too long when it occurs.

I wouldnt plan on running the heater on the batteries, you are better off saving power to generate flow in the aquarium and dropping on baggies of warm water in the event of a power loss.
Ideally, you would have the generator, I think you would be suprised at the low cost of them now.

I have powerheads, and heater but if the heater kicks on the batter doesn't last very long. so I may switch it to just the power heads but I'm not sure how quicky the water temp will drop.

I gave away my apc-1500. I went with the $10 auto start battery operated air pump.
The $1000 apc only ran my koralia three for around three hours.

If you can, and have the outside space, I would install a generator. It would be much cheaper and safer in the end. And if there was an extended outage you could run and get more gas... With the battery backup you would have to wait till the power comes back on to charge it, which could be to late to be of any use...

Thanks for the input, guess I'll look into the generator.

If you do, get one with the largest gas tank you can.
