aquac ev 120 opinions

Thinking of getting a aqua C EV120 for a 120 gal tank with mag Drive 5 pump. Do you guys recommend running this in the sump or out of the sump? We're trying to keep the sump from getting to cluttered.

If you plumg the output it can run well externally. You will not be happy running a ev120 with a mag 5 though. Get a mag 7 especially if you plan on using it externally. These are great performers but touchy. You really have to be patient and understand the skimmer to get great performance.

For a 120 gal I would get the 180 the ev120 is a bit on the small side. And yes they can be very finiky at first it can take a few weeks before they settle down so be sure to run the drain line back into your sump so when it overflows it does not drain your sump onto your floor. I run a 180 with a ehiem 1262 on my 125 reef it's a good skimmer IMO.

I agree with Ocean wonders. a ev120 would be pushing it. I was using my ev120 on my 180 when cycling it but I would not recomend it for over 100 total gallons.

Thanks for the info guys!! Looks like the ev180 with the mag 7 might be the way to go.

I would put a larger pump on the ev180 than a mag 7 you can always use a ball valve to dial the flow back a bit if you have to. The ehiem I run on the 180 is rated at 900gph much better pump that a MAGdrive IMO.

I second the ehiem pump. They handle better with pressure and they run cooler than a mag. With aquaC you always want to go one pump size larger than recomended.IME

Don't get the Mag7. Get the Mag9.5 or even better the Eheim 1262.
