Home Depot Acrylic, Plexiglas, Lexan question

I'm planning on building my own sump\fuge and I'm looking around at what to build it with. Has anyone used the Acrylic stuff at HD? They only have one that is 1/4 inch which is labeled as Hobby Acrylic Plexiglas. The 2 other kinds are to thin at 1/8 inch. There are plenty of places to buy online and one I found that will cut to size for a price. Don't mind cutting it myself. Just want to know if anyone has used this and is it good or bad?

Go to Manhattan off Canal Street Near Holland Tunnel or Church Street intersecting Canal St. They sell all types of Acrylic sheets, rods, tubes etc; and they do the cutting on site while you wait.

I hope this helps!

I think one is called Acrylic or Pastic World and the other Canal Acrylic. Check on Google under Acrylic stores.

Checked a local glass store in Freehold, he quoted 160.00 for a 4'x4' sheet, too much for me. Not sure if I want to go into the city for this.

Anyone use the Home Depot Plexiglas to build a fuge???

I've built sumps out of HD's Hobby Acrylic for years. Never had any problems.

Thanks!! That's what I wanted to hear. At least I can use it knowing someone else did and I can build what I want instead of using a glass tank.

Your welcome. I also used the Lexon caulk to glue the acrilic baffels to a glass sump.

Oh yea, HD only has the silicone. Now I need to find Weldon #3. I guess I should use something other than silicone to glue it all together. What did you use?

Ken, be careful with the 3 I think that's the fast set if I remember right
I would buy both 3 and 4, you're going to want the 4 (slow set) for the baffles..or it's going to be a big PITA.

BTW, did you call rob about the plexi? he still has some I'm sure it will cost you a lot less then HD even with the drive up north...
