flow
I have a 53 gal tank that I'm just about to set up. I'm just trying to figure out how much flow I need. Currently there is a mag7 pump (700gph) the prevoius ownder said was enough flow for the tank. I'm thinking of adding a #2 Koralia. Good idea or not?

I would wait. If your info is correct and you are new to the hobby you probably shouldn't be keeping SPS corals. A lot of other corals won't appreciate the extra flow. So, I'd wait until you actually need the extra flow.

I've had a 30g set up for about 5 months now and it had about 700gph flow, which is why I'm thinking it's a bit low for a 53 gal. Everyone seems to have so much more flow.

the mag7 if your using it as your return isnt really 700 gph so id say yes on the koralia id would have one on each end of the tank in addition to the mag

one quick question. Is the tank up and running now at your friends house and is it a running system or is it his old system broken down? If it is still running try and use 75% of his water to help you along.

Unfortunately it is broken down. I just set it back up at my house, I'm waiting for the water to clear (cloudy due to the sand) before I add salt. Once I do that I'm going to add some live sand and rock to get things going.
