Large Holiday Family Gatherings = Low PH

So on Christmas Eve we had my wife's family over for the Christmas Celebration. With all the kids, adults, and 1 baby present we had I believe 34 people total in my house!!!

I arrived home about an hour after the party started, as I had to work (I make my own schedule, and was quite aware what time the party started )

I checked in on my inhabitants and fed them upon arriving (95 total gallon reef). About an hour later (2hrs into the party), I looked at my AcJr. and noticed the PH Drop....

During Light hours my Ph usually runs between 8.2-8.3. By this time the PH had hit the lowest I have ever seen in my system, it was down to 7.67!

I quickly opened the windows and cracked a nearby door to get some fresh air in and slowly bring the PH back up. It got back up to 8.0 by bed time, and no inhabitants were hurt, harmed, or lost, but let this be a friendly reminder to have good air circulation with the party season still going on. That many people talking that much makes a big difference.

At least you know you have your house well insulated

Amazing that it made that much difference, but I believe it!

its not that people where sucking the O2 out, but rather, exhaling CO2.

I have a brother in law that could probably drop the PH of my tank to low 7's all by himself.

That happens at my house, too. Only took 8 people to drop the pH to 7.87 from 8.35 in a couple hours.

Yeah, some people dont believe it when I post it, but I boost my pH by running the air inlet from outside.

I had the very same experience. I always watch my PH during large gatherings and even have resorted to opening windows and turning on the heat! Pumping fresh air into the aquarium hood is a very good idea imo.

Yeah, I Opened the canopy and the doors leading to the sump along with a small fan to ventilate.

Prior the lowest PH drop my tank had ever been to was about 7.98 in the morning prior to lights coming on.
