I have personaly used a G2 and was very disappointed. There are plenty of skimmers out there you can use without breaking the bank...look at Das skimmers, and if you can afford a little more, a deltec AP600 would be great.

The G2 is a good skimmer, if you have the ability to get a G3 go for it. I think the the body of the G2 is a little oversized to get optimum performance out of the sedra 3500 pump.

I would rethink that one. You can get an Octopus NW 200 for $$179:00 Brand new. Its amuch larger skimmer, 8 inch body, Much better built and will out skim a G2 by a mile.

If you read some of the threads on here you might rethink octopuskimmer .com . Some say they are a knock off and have trouble with cracking .
Try this guy, very nice, very fast shipping. Sells Octo's, ASM, Euro. Albert at AquaCave, Inc. 847-582-1026 |

I ran an ASM G1X, on a 75 sps tank and it did great. It has the same pump as the g2. I could see how the 3500 needle wheel pump might not be enough for the G2 body, and have heard the same complaint from others. If I had it to do over again I would have bought the G4, or now you can get the Octo NW 200. You may find yourself upgrading to a bigger tank later like I did, and then having to purchase another skimmer. I have a Euro rs180 now.Its a great skimmer , but a little sensitive to water levels in the sump. I dont think it lives up to the hype to be honest with u. My ASM never skipped a beat no matter what the sump level was.
I asked albert at Aqua cave if he would come down any? He under cut his competitors by 20 dollars and shipped it for free. It was on my door the next day. |

I am pretty sure about the knock off factor. I believe that octopuss skimmer and the reef octopus are two different companies. I personally have the reef octopuss DNW110 recirc on my 40 breeder and love it. It is very powerful for this size tank, and no problems with leaks or cracks or spidering. Do a search and compare.

I dont have any experience with the octupus but I have an ASM G1 and it works fine - never need to adjust it, pulls out junk fine. It depends on how heavily you stock and feed the tank which will determine how big you have to go.
