Did you have a Tomato, Clarkii, and Scooter Blenny all in a 10 gallon tank w/o a skimmer?
How'd you pull that off?

Thanks for checking in! Your 20 long is still the inspiration for this one. Well, I'm off to the city on Friday, hopefully I'll find something nice. I really hope to find a nice red sponge like Lp, but I'll settle for a nice torch and a few sexy shrimp. We shall see... |

Actually, I live in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada, and 'the city' is Edmonton, a 4.5 hours drive... more bad news, I won't be going down until next Monday. So we'll all have to wait and see what I pick up |

alright dude, just curious xD
stoked to see what you get. I kinda wanna get a nice hammer coral or something, oh and heres my thread, it started with questions but as it goes along the pictures and the tank get better. Not too big either, i plan on turning it into a build thread with an admins help in changing the name.

Thanks for the comments. The diy was easy and i borrowed the idea, but hey, you gotta start somewhere... Phong 33 et al.: I'm starting to see that maybe a little more flow wouldn't hurt. Actually, I'm looking into maybe making a four foot nano, and I'd definitely need another nanostream... Anyone wanna buy the hood I built? lol Here are some new pics. I got a couple of frags from the LFS up here for cheap, the tank was looking really bare and I couldn't wait for the trip to edmonton... so here they are! Actinic xenias Hammer frag Ricordea Some other ricordea-looking coral that was starved for light in the tank it was in... I'm thinking it will open up nice and round in a few days And also, my auto top-off. I ordered it from autotopoff.com, and it's working great so far. Although, I thought it would be smaller and it kinda sticks out for now, hopefully will encrust with coralline eventually. |

Great tank man...I myself am setting up a 29g w/ 10g sump. It's cycling as I type.
Just wondering how much live rock is in there. I heard that the it's 1-2lb per gallon for best filteration but I also heard the more porous the better. I currently have 15lbs of indo rock and keep wondering if it'll do. |

Envy07:
There is roughly 25 lbs of LR in there, although I've been told it doesn't look like 25 lbs... could be because it's fairly dense rock. I suppose porous rock is good for aerobic bacteria that convert ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate, but I know that denser LR has more anaerobic volume which is much more suitable for the anaerobic bacteria that complete denitrification by converting nitrates into nitrogen gas... wow, that was a long sentence! So really, it's up to you. The rock I have was labeled as 'Jakarta' in my LFS. If 15 lbs looks good in your tank, keep it that way. If you need additional filtration, look into a skimmer or a refugium, or consider frequent water changes. HTH |

Finally got photobucket to work... apparently it doesn't like photos with a higher resolution than 1024x768, but now that I've figured that out it should be a lot faster and easier in the future
Here's a pic of the new clam, a maxima And here's the red ricordea frag I picked up in Edmonton A nice elephant ear mushroom under actinics And the rest of the pics, under full lighting Last edited by mikellini; 12/21/2007 at 07:37 PM. |
