What do you use to cement your rocks together?
I am currently trying ot make rock structures for my new 55g setup. (build thread coming soon) I wanna try gluing rocks together like Ive seen others do, but I have no idea what adhesive to use and where to get it. Ive heard of people using super glue, thorite cement, quik crete, etc. I honestly have no clue what to do. What do you reefers use? And where do you get it? Id prefer to buy it from my local Lowes or HD

use aquastick epoxy, or Acrylic rods. or both. here is a pic of my aquascaping, using acrylic rods, and a couple cable ties. all of the rock is marco rock. I drilled and inserted the rods and built the structures. Then I cured my rock in a 1000g system for 6 mo, then added the now live rock into my 120. I used 1/4" solid Acrylic rods to secure most of those shelf pieces.

no disrespect, but in a 55 gal tank I doubt you would get any rocks in that would qualifiy as "large" (unless they are really long and skinny ) ...... so whatever you try and stick together, a part epoxy is going to do it, unless you are looking for some pretty ridiculous over hang look...... but I would think you would balancing problems with any such structure before it would fall over.
The biggest problem is curing time, and propping your structures up while it cures..... after that...... I'd put it to you this way, I stuck two rocks together in my 240..... each rock weight about 6-8kgs (13-18lbs) - I don't think I could seperate them without a hammer now...... HTH Matt

You can use thorite reef safe cement. You can see a video of a tank that thorite was used for aquascaping at www.reefvideos.com click on Carl's 150g reef. He has an awesome tank.
