M58 Ballast
Ok guys I've got some M58 ballast I got from a friend but I don't know anything about them. I tried to find some info on them in the lighting post that's been made but really didn't have that much luck, or I missed something. Anyway's I need some good info on them. Are they Electronic or magnetic? Can I run 20000K bulbs on them with no problems? And are they strickly for one type of bulb or what. Oh and what bulb looks best with them. I'm interested in running another 20K on my tank or a 15, XM's if possible. Sorry for the long ?'s

They are magnetic, you have to use a bulb with an ignitor in it. The 10k xm works but i hate the color, and the hami s work, like the 14k's color, nice blue tint. There are more but i forget. They are reliable ballasts but run hot!

All true ... 250 watt Probe Start ballast made for probe start bulbs (single ended/screw in base). The Radium 20000K is a pulse start, HQI rated single ended bulb.
This Article has a good list showing many of the 250 watt bulbs rated for your M58 ballats. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2007-03/sj/index.php |
