non-reef Yellow Clown Goby

Thinking of adding a YCG to my peaceful FOWLR tank for its size, color, and personality. Reading that it is ideally a reef fish and have concerns about putting one in a tank without corals. Observations and personal experiences requested.

Thanks Deb - I was guessing "sand bottom". The answer, Demon, is "No", I have a crushed coral bottom. It's my understanding that the Clown Goby is not a "burrower"; rather, they like to nest or "perch" in branching corals: "Unlike most gobies, which are burrowers, Gobiodon sp. roost in the outer branches of acropora (staghorn) corals"

corals arent needed for any fish unless they feed or live in them. the goby should do just fine. clown gobies are really small and weak though...so when u say a peaceful FOWL tank, i really hope you mean it.

It should be fine. It will just perch on the rock instead of coral.

Check the temperature requirements on these - I think that they prefer cooler temps than most tanks
