thread update

I finally got a magnet scraper attachment. (MO got some in.)
Now I need to try and find out what magnet would be better to attach it to- my MagFloat or my 'Algae Free' Tiger Shark float.
Anybody have some input before I break out the superglue?

Do you leave those in the tank? Will the blades rust/corrode?

although the blades are stainless steel you won't want to leave them in the aquarium for long as they'll eventually corrode

I use the bigger mag float (the square one) as far as leaving them in that is a no no but I take mine apart and rinse and dry after each use and it is still like new

I have a nice long clear acrylic rod+algae scraper I got from saltwater paradise in tonawanda a long time ago, and a few of the small hand scrapers. You are right it doesn't take long for the blades to rust. I guess I was being a little facetious. The magnet scraper might come in handy though, especially once I enclose the tanks in the wall.

I'm actually epoxying a few mj1200's to some big cheapo ($10) algae magnets I got at petco right now. Magnets sure come in handy. I also just got 100 scraper blades for like $14 at homedepot yesterday.

I believe the scraper attachment that is sold to be glued onto and existing mag float 125 is called the e z blade.

Locally they are sold at Reef Creations and are available in black and white (off white)

that's the one I have- the Easy Blade. The logical choice is to glue it on my MagFloat.
I'd rather ruin a $20 magnet than an $80 magnet!

You are not going to ruin your magnet if you leave you magnet in the tank take the blade off if not just retract it as I do works great without having to buy another magnet

well it's done.
I glued the blade onto my Magfloat early this morning and let it dry for a couple of hours. I then had a cup of coffee and got to work.
The scraper worked better than I could have ever expected. I scraped off so much coralline that my drains started to clog- and that was just after cleaning ONE PANE of glass!
My aquarium water is pink from coralline particles right now and I have a huge pile of coralline scrapings that have collected in a "dead zone" of no water movement. (Man, I need a Vortech!)
This attachment is great. How did I ever survive this long without it? It reaches behind rockwork where it's impossible to get a good angle with those handle mounted blades!
Well worth the price of admission. Five thumbs up. Everybody should get one.

Didja' know that hungry Emperor Angelfish will eat coralline scrapings?

Nice. Thnx for the review. I just scraped said glass a few days ago with my acrylic rod scraper + hand scrapers and was wondering how I would scrape it as effectively once the front of the canopy is walled off. I'll order one of the magnet scrapers next time I order some reef stuff online.

When you said behind the rocks, did you mean that you scraped your back glass, or just tight places between rock and glass on the sides and front? Just curious. I only scrape the front and right side of my tank (the left side is against a wall).

Hey Gary,

Could you post a picture of how you mounted yours? I've been itching to get something like this going.

Thanks

I forgot yours is central in living room. The back is painted black on mine and I've never scraped it.

"Cleaning four sides of an aquarium is much more of a chore than cleaning just one side, and I typically do this whenever I can - at least once every other day."
