Blue Jaw Trigger questions
I am thinking about adding just one to a reef.
1. Are they reef safe w/ SPS? 2. For inverts I just have Cleaner Shrimp, so I heard no problems there. 3. What are the coloration differences between Male & Female? 4. Can you keep just one? Tank is 180, other fish are Purple Tang, Yellow Tang, Hippo Tang, Lyretail & Barletts, flame hawk, diamond sand sifting goby and chromis. Thanks Doug

I have a pair in my tank and they are model citizens. The male has blue on it's chin and a yellow strip on it's tail, while the female has no blue chin and the tail has a dark red (burgundy?) strip. I've read plenty of people having one but I love the pair together.

they are reef safe w/ sps. the cleaner should be ok since its in there first but it may hide alot more. yes you can keep just one. i had a male alone that developed its colors despite the absence of a female

i have a pair in my tank - no problem with lps, sps or clams. You can keep just one but I have found that the presence of the female results in less hiding initially.

Hi guys,
phoenix / tony13 - got any pics / vids of your pair? Often thought of gettnig a pair, but have been put off mainly by the prospect of the waste they would generate. what do you feed yours to keep them well fed & healthy, and do you think they produce allot of waste? Cheers, Matt PS. Sorry to sort of hi-jack the thread.

I've had my single male for a couple of months now. I don't have any SPS, but I do have Zoas, Ricordea, Mushrooms, Leather, Xenia, Kenya Tree, Hammer, Frogspawn, Aveopora, Torch and Galaxea. He bothers none of it. I also have two Cleaner Shrimp, a CBS, misc. snails, Emerald Crabs and plenty of BL Hermits and he hasn't even looked at any of them. He even retreats to the cave where the cleaners live at night. I feed mine mainly a mix of Pime Reef flakes, frozen Brine Shrimp & Frozen Mysis Shrimp. Awesome fish.

I feed spectra pellet daily and then mysis and silversides twice a week. I skim heavy and i also have a denitrator. I got the pair from Phishybusiness and asked for a small pair. I was lucky in that Serdar got a small pair pretty quickly.sd

We have a pair in the store and they are awesome. Great with other fish, eat well and are great characters.
Cheers, FW

Matt,
Tried to get so pics yesterday buy of course they know and become camera shy. But feeding wise they eat everything. Mine eat flake, mysis, brine and blood worms, even cyclopeeze. Waste wise I would compare them to tangs. |
