Tonga LR

Hi there, I read a LR breakdown that was well done awhile back but I can't find that thread anywhere.

I'm looking to buy some LR and found "Tonga Deep Water LR" at liveaquaria. It says it is more porous than Fiji and you need less LB per gallon and they are BIG pieces for a large show tank.

Is this the best stuff you can get? It is more expensive but I seem to remember the writer of that good post about LR saying he/she really liked a specific LR that was more porous. Wondered if this was the stuff.

Can someone link me to that thread if you know where it is please?

Do a search on this site for live rock. In the past 4 days alone I've seen 8-10 threads on it. Anything else would just be a repost of the info you can find through search.

However, IMO the best looking live rock would be Marshall Islands and the best aquacultured rock would be Tampa Bay Saltwater.

Ah so I have to become a "premium" member to use the search engine. Pay for it...I see.

btw, I find it funny that it talks about spellchecker being included in this sentence:

"As you can see Premium Membership is often mentioned as the way to get better access to the search engine but there is much more too it."

Too it...lol.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

Thanks for those threads...I don't understand why liveaquaria would say:

"Tonga Deepwater Live Rock is an "uncured", porous rock that is available in partial box lots weighing 30 pounds. This rock consists of ancient encrusted coral heads, which makes this rock less dense than Fiji Premium Rock, and more unique in shape to all other live rock that is available. The average size of each rock is much larger than most other South Pacific rock and varies between 8 to 20 inches."

http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...cfm?pCatId=875

But everyone else seems to think it's dense.

I also wonder if the "Marshall" everyone is talking about is the same as "Carribbean" they have hereat live aquaria:

Seems like they are defined about the same. Both Lettuce coral heads with tons of life still on it, including hitchikers.

"This unique appearing live rock comes from Haiti and is actually ancient Lettuce coral heads that have been reencrusted over with coralline algae, sponges, tunicates, macro algaes, and other interesting invertebrates. Haitian live rock has many open areas due to its plating structure which will enable the aquarium to have better circulation, and a natural appearance.

Haitian live rock is much lighter than any rock available in the market making it much easier to provide the desired look in the aquarium at an affordable price. The recommended weight per gallon is between 3/4 to 1-1/4 pounds. This quantity will create a beautiful aquascape, with many open holes and crevices, for marine life to hide. The advantages of using this unique rock is the incredible diversity of coloration, massive size, and unique shapes.

Live Rock will benefit not only reef aquariums, but also fish-only aquariums. Live rock will provide a natural food source for some fish, aid in the breakdown of waste produced by aquarium inhabitants, and create a foundation for live corals or decorations in a fish-only aquarium. A diversity of life forms such as plants, worms, sponges, starfish, crustaceans, mollusks, and occasionally even hard or soft corals are present with this type of rock."
