Are tunze pumps really worth the money?

Ok, so they make a million gallons per hour flow. they make a very gentle, broad flow. They are controllable by pulses, on off timers, etc. The random flow is supposed to promote more polyp extention in SPS corals and replicate ocean currents better. It really is a nifty piece of equipment.

I am thinking of upping the flow in mytank. my two options are 2 tunze 6100s or adding an additional 2 seio 1500s (making 4 total)

only draw back is that 2 tunzes and a multicontroller sets you back about $800 (used). (compared to the 400 i would spend on all four seios new)

with two tunzes 6100s and a controller, i can have them create 2,000 and 6,000 gallons per hour!!! thats 18 - 48 x turn over in my tank from two pumps!


To do this with the seios, i would need 4 1500 gph Seio pumps

Energy wise, its about the same. cost wise the tunze are almost twice as much. but functionality wise... does the better functionality of the tunze justify the pumps costing over twice as much? It seems as soon as they appear in the classifieds, they are sold. That must mean something

but are they pumps controllable on a wavemaker?

nope. I've used those maxi mods on a wavemaster pro and the propellers snapped off of two of them. I dont know if you could use those pumps on say a seio controller....not too sure how they would hold up to that.

i have the "old" mod kits.. they work fine on a timer for me...

I used to think that Tunze Streams were expensive, until I bought a pair.

Now I'd not even consider a tank with out them.

beer guy, i have a 125, almost the same dimensions as your 180. what model do you use? how many?

i have 2 6200's and 4 mj mods... the mj mods are louder and produce less water movement then the tunze's... if you can afford them i say get them... lol.. but like most things in this hobby.. you gotta pay to play

depends on your budget...I love the tunzes and they produce amazing gentle flow....If you are on budget go with koralia's or mod some maxi jets.

Ive went from 4 maxi jets to 4 Koralia's to Finally 2 6101's and I love them.If you can afford em GET EM!!

I have 2 Tunze 6100's on a 7095 and really like them, they are well worth the money to me.

I have a 125 also. I have 2 6045's modded to flow about 1100gph each. I also have a Mag 18 with 2 return lines as my main pump. I don't have a wave box or anything but with all the water movement crashing into one another it does create a small wave like motion inside my tank. I like the look.

It may be a cheaper way to go.

and by the way.. Tunzes customer service is the best in the industry. hands down.

I have never used the Tunze units but I have seem them in action at a couple LFS. Wow is all I can say they move some water, on the controllers they are nothing short of awesome. Mabe Santa will bring me one LOL

I have two Tunze Stream 6100 pumps on a controller and a tunze wavebox. So far,I am very happy with result.

I agree 100% I currently have 3 6100 and 2 6025. Great investment.

I used to think you would be smoking crack to make me believe shelling out the money for Tunze is worth it. After dealing with Chinese made junk (Seio) and Maxijet mods, I now have two 6201's and two 6100's and the multi controller.

Keep in mind, Tunze are NOT going to win the "Bang for the Buck" award. Roger provides top notch customer service on top of things, which is also included in the price.

I have fairly extensive experience with both Tunze and Sieos and I will tell you that although you are paying double for the Tunze you are getting a product that works 10 times better.

The functionality of the Tunze absolutely does justify the higher expense. Like it has already been said multiple times on this thread, I could not imagine a tank without Tunze. It would be like having a computer without the internet (although I am definitely old enough to remember those days).

I have been very happy with all my Tunze equipment. It works as advertised and I've had no issues in almost 3 years.

The nice thing about Tunzes is that hold their value. If you needed to sell them for some reason, you wont take a beating.

I love my 6100's for all the reasons mentioned above. I you have the cash, grab a set. You won't regret it.

And if for some reason you do, they go very quickly in the selling forum

Very reliable. You absolutely get what you pay for and they are worth every penny.

Get one even if you don't have the money.
