Question for Lineatus Wrasse Owners
I have a 100 gallons mix reef tank dimension 60x18x22 with about 110 lbs of liferock so plenty of hidding places.
Wife has the following fishes a 5 inches blue tang (upgrade to 280 gallons next year) 4 inches red sea sailfin tang (upgrade to 280 gallons next year) 3 inches Chocolate tang Pair of true percular clownfish I have 1 longfin wrasse 1 golden Blenny Last Friday a LSF owner ordered and hand pick for me a 2.5 inches Australia supermale Lineatus. As soon as I put him in tank he hided somewhere and has not come out to eat what so ever. Couple times I saw him in his hidding spots but he moved to new spot right away. Is he going to be ok? I know the 3 big tangs kinda pick on him when I released him in tank. What can I do to get him come out and swimming like the longfin Wrasse? I am worry as he is my most expensive fish in tank beside the golden blenny. Thanks for your help. |

I HAD 2 sub adult and a 3 1/2 supermale. These are 1 of the more bashful wrasses as they acclimate... the supermale got picked on by the subadult and just hid and died on me.. the other one I ended up selling and got $$$ plus a bazooka joe chalice.. they are beautiful fish but too high a price to risk with more boisterous fish... JMO. good luck

Take out the long fin! they are usually very aggressive towards other fairy Wrasses. I know my Lineatus is very agressive too though. its a sub male and has killed 3 other wrasses since I got her almost a year ago.

When introducing fairy wrasses (and others), it is a wise idea to float a socialization cup to allow the other inhabitants a chance to get used to the new fish. Otherwise, the newcomers will often hide immediately and not come out. This technique even allows introduction of fairy wrasses that might otherwise be picked on because they are of similar size and shape. The smaller the tank, the more important socialization becomes.

Oh, and I agree with Bret that long fins are pretty aggressive.

If he will perish unless I take him out then I will do it. Buti s there another option as I hate to take all the corals and liferocks out to catch these wrasse

Fish trap. Requires about 20 minutes of patience.

Mine did the same thing when first put in tank... Hid on the bottom... I honestly thought he was dead. I went to retrieve him, and he moved....
Give him some time, he will come around. Also you can start using some mirrors, when the Lineatus comes out... Will distract the territorial fish you have. Also shut your lights off... It will calm everyone down... I shut mine off for 2 days... My Kole Tang went right for him with the lights on.. Lights off, they all scatter and hide... Here is a pic of my Super Male Lineatus flashing..
