Home Depot or Lowe's in the lighting section.

It's used as a light diffuser.

The suction cups are bound to fail eventually as I have expeinced with powerheads and several people near me have constructed frag shelves with them only to have the rubber dry out or become rigid with time in the harsh saltwater environment.

Again, a great idea to have frags in a display tank instead of setting up a seperate frag tank
sorry to bring an old thread back but how did you make that? or where did you get it?

Not too complicated. I used a razor to cut 1" strips of acrylic (plexiglass) and then used a lighter (bic style lighter) to heat up the areas I wanted to bend. I then bent them and ran the bent acrylic under cool water to set it faster. I bent it as shown in the first photo. Then I slipped a piece of eggcrate into it.

Let me know if you need any clarification.

tek that is an awesome idea. Also, the idea with PVC is awesome too! Great ideas, keep them coming. I do prefer the mag floats over suction cups. Eventually they will fail and you will be upset when they do!

On the door hangers from dollar store, zip-tied to eggcrate:

The longer transparent version is seasonal - for hanging on the door the round Christmas ornament.

I've recently started using those dishwasher holders for baby bottle stuff. I run fish line thru it and tie it off on both ends somewhere. It sounds kinda tacky, but the fishing line is virtually invisible. Really the only challenge is having something to secure the fishing line to on each side. My light fixture is on legs so I just secure it to that. I'm sure there would be a lot of options in a canopy, too.

I would rubber cement a magnet in place on the outside of your tank and attach another magnet to the egg crate with epoxy or super glue...that way nobody can move it and if you get little neonydium magnets you can get small enough/strong enough ones that most people wont even notice them.
I agree thats a great idea for what you made but those suction cups scare the hell outta me...

Has anyone tried the fishing line method? How does it hold up against the heat of the lights? I like the idea of them being suspended with no visable attachments.

Monofilament will dry rot over time from the U.V. radiation as well as the heat from the lights.

But does the heat weaken it and possibly lead to a break?
