mag way over rated!
ok i have a mag 12 and a Little giant 5 pump, both are rated at 1200 gph. the little giant has 13 feet of head and 30 feet of horizontal piping it needs to run thru and the mag has 1 foot of head and 5 feet horizontal pipe. the little gaint pump blows the mag away even with 43 of pipe it need to run thru little giant 900GPH and the mag is at 780 GPH

i think little giant pumps are pressure rated while mags are flow rated you can google that and it will tell you what the diffrence is. mag pumps are inefficent and put alot of heat into your water. i wouldnt go with one anyways

the mags arent overrated. You are confusing maximum flow potential for pressure ratings as TX pointed out

i really don't think 1 foot of head should cause that kinda loss, even adding the flow meter with no head the there is a 150 gph loss!

is the mag new?? Has it ever been cleaned?? what size of plumbing are you coming off the mag 12 with??
all of these things affect flow and head loss. to be sure, you very well could just have a lemon too Ive used lots of mags and for what they are, they are good pumps IMO |

i have used them for years and they do run trouble feel and there noise level is low, I'm not saying there bad pumps but just more that they should have a lower rating, i use 1 inch tubing. the pump i was testing was about a year old with a new impeller

What size hose are you running off the mag? The flow charts with the mag tell you specifically that you need to be running a 1.5" pipe off the mag to achieve those numbers. Running a 3/4 hose off that mag 12 will drastically cut flow...

a year old pump needs cleaned or that alone, besides not using 1.5" pipe coming off of it as physh just pointed out is the cause for your reduced flow
