Hot Pink Yuma
Well I acquired another hot pink yuma. This is my 3rd go around on these suckers. My first one did good for 3 months then detached and died. My second one detached in about 2 weeks and died.
So here I am again. I found this one at my LFS and couldn't resist. They had a Thanksgiving sale and combined with my frequent buyer addiction he hooked it up a little more. I really hope this one makes it. Looks really good and healthy. But then again so did my other ones. These hot pink yumas are one of my favorites. I also added a pic of my other pink yuma, that ones really unique, never seen one like it before. I hope both of these yumas stay with me forever. |

My fingers are crossed too. There are very very few people I know who are able to keep these with success as well as have them multiply.
I'm not sure why. Their pink\red pigmentation could make them one that would want lower light possibly well.. That one at least looks super healthy. Have you seen the yumas where the mouth is flattened onto the disc of the shroom.. not gaping but just not prominent? those I see die off a lot quicker than a nice , er "perky" one so keep us posted on how well it does. I love mushrooms but have had ones like these not be happy anywhere I put them so I stopped putting money into them.

Chrisstie I know what you mean. I was walking around the store debating on buying it or not. There was no question whether I wanted it or not, but whether or not it would live. I have this guy partially shaded, hopefully it works out.

Got it at LFS, Eyecandy Aquariums. I won't say how much, but it was over $100.

Hey, nice find.
They seem to be like other things. Move them around a little to different light and/or flow and then there is that magic spot where they are happy. Good luck.

Sweet looking yuma. I'll cross my fingers. Maybe you can find out the secret to keeping them healthy. I'll even cross my toes so maybe it will split for you.

Do you know if the one you bought was captive bred or wild caught? My captive bred ones have a great track record for survival, I personally wouldn't try it with a wild caught one since survival seems pretty rare. I keep mine directly under my 250W MH and they have been happy and multiplying for years now.

I'm pretty sure mine was wild caught.

They all started as wild caught. Captive bred really means little. I've had mine for 3+ years, and it just melted one day.
