what is a safe adhesive remover for acrylic

Someone didn't remove the sticker on the bottom of the tank now it's very stuck cracked and moldy, does not peel off easily. I want to strip it out not sure what to use. Maybe some wall paper remover or something... I don't want something that might hurt the integrity of the plastic.

I have a steam cleaner I have used it to take off wall paper but not sure if it will overheat stuff.

Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) seems to work well. Higher the percentage of alcohol the better.

If alcohol doesn't do the trick I use Zippo fluid.

Try "Goo Gone". You should be able to find it at any hardware or grocery store. It works great for taking off stickers on any surface.

I wouldn't try Lacquer Thinner. I think it will cause the acrylic to start "crazing"

i would NOT use lacquer on a tank unless it was glass. lacquer is a solvent and acrilic tanks are not solvent safe and will fog or start to melt the acrilic. trust me. lets just say by leaving a rag with some lacquer on my safty glasses gave me a demo of what could happen.
you could use mineral spirits. very mild. it works getting paint overspray off my glasses with out hazing

I second not using lacquer thinner. I've seen it RUIN my friends windshield on his GSXR after we were doing some mods...we were wiping decals off and well lets just say we had to end up rubbing the whole thing to make it look better

Any of the solvents will probably permanently damage the acrylic. Kerosene will soften the adhesive and then can be wiped off with soapy water.
