Roayal Grammas & Peppermint Shrimp
Are Roayal Grammas known to eat inverts like peppermint shrimp? For some reason I keep losing my peppermints. They seem to last about a week if I am lucky then I just don't see them anymore. The Royal Gramma is the only thing that I have added since my other peppermint shrimp died, that and one emerald crab that I could never find. My cleaner shrimp and scarlet hermits seem to do fine. Tested the water and all were zero. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Steve |

Your emerald crab could be the culprit, They hunt at night to feed, this is when the shrimp will just be hanging out. The royal gramma should be fine with your shrimp.

I have a Brazilian Royal Gramma and he is BIG and MEAN. Hates everybody. I lost my shrimp after many years (old age) and just recently added two smaller cleaner shrimps. Going on 3 months--no problems.

My Brazilian will eat anything or anyone that fits into his BIG mouth. Grammas aren't always as passive as they seem, and they've got a pretty large jaw. The general rule in the ocean is if I can catch it, I'll eat it so... you may very well be losing peppermints to your gramma.

We've got a 3+" Royal Gramma and he leaves both our FireFish and Randall's goby alone (peppermints x3 have paired up with the Goby) - no problems to report - even our HUGE CoralBanded gets along with everyone...

My royal gramma ate a cleaner shrimp that had been introduced minutes earlier. $28 fish snack....

I have a royal gramma peppermint and coral banded shrimp w/o problems, but the royal gramma is a royal pain to every other thing in the tank!

My RG is as good as gold with my 8 pep shrimps, and ditto for my 10 emerald crabs...
