Plumbing my 75 gallon

I have an Oceanic E series stand and tank. I'm not sure if I can fit a 36" tank under it, but I really want to (anyone know?). If not, I would go for a 29 gallon.

I will not be running a skimmer in this tank. The sump will simply contain a large refugium, some baffles, and a return pump (Rio 10HF).

My tank is undrilled right now, but I want to drill it (where?) and put an internal overflow box in. I've read about external dursos, the Herbie method, internal dursos, simple 90 degree bends, etc. What is the quietest and most efficient way of getting water from the display to the sump?

Now, I hear spaflex tubing is better than straight PVC for getting the water down. What's your take on this?

Thanks.
