I couldn't answer the poll because I run both 10K and 20K on the same tank.

The tough thing about this poll is that it's based on the manufacturers kelvin label. There are many variations to the bulbs actual appearance.

-Reeflux 12k looks like a true 20k bulb
-Phoenix 14k looks like a true 20k bulb
-Giesemann 14.5k is whiter than an AB 10k
-Iwasaki 15k looks like a true 10k bulb
-AquaConnect 14k looks like a true 12k bulb

etc.

I wish it was just as simply as 10k, 14k, or 20k, but manufacturer, wattage, end-type, and ballast makes a world of difference. Sanjay's site really, really helps reefers narrow this down

It also depends on the ballast and reflector combination you use. I run Helios 20,000K 400W in Lumenarc III on a PFO HQI ballast. I like the coloration and run it without supplementation.

Is it just me or does the XM 10k 250W SE look like the best as far as light output and color?

I agree. It's primarily the blast and wattage that makes a huge difference. A 10k Hamilton on a 175 is MUCH more blue than a Radium 20K on a 400w HQI which is crisp white.

AB 10k's, which I understand are really like 13-14k.

I run XM10K 250 watt SE and am completely happy with them. I didn't have actinics when I first added the lights......probably for 4 or 5 months but wanted some sort of dawn/dusk effect. I like the color of the XM's, I also like the growth. Coralvue E-ballast.

I run a single 14K Phoenix 250watt over my 40g frag tank. It looks like the same color as my 20K AB Lamp =)

I'm also running 2x 175watt Iwasaki 15K SE lamps + 2x 54watt ATI Blue Plus T5's over my new display tank, that color looks even better IMO.
