Can I Keep a Tang?
If someone can keep two 4" tangs in a 75G why can't I keep two 11/2 inch tangs in a 40G? Of course this is with the fact that they will be moved to a bigger tank when they get larger.

Tangs are very active fish and require quite a lot of swimming space. If you put them into a tank too small they will get stressed and die.

I can almost ear the sirens coming!!!
No you can not, if some one have 2 4" in a 75G he is doing a very bad thing, so you will. Be kind with this little fishys, dont do it. They will live a horrible life and dye.

I temporarily have 2 tangs in a 46 gallon bowfront just while in quarantine before i put them in my reef tank, less than a week so far. one is a yellow belly blue hippo about 3" and a chocolate tang about 3 1/2" and i will be honest they hate it. i will not keep them in it any longer than i have too for sure because it stresses them out ecspecially the chocolate. with the size tank you have i wouldnt do it..you would be amazed how fast they grow and even at the smaller size they still need the length of the tank because they tend to swim in bursts and get stopped dead in their tracks in a short tank.
tangs themselves are more prone to ick and if they are stressed by lack of space you would just be asking for trouble as it is a fight that in the long run you may lose the fish. a cramped fish isnt a happy fish. dont do it |
