External Pump Reviews?

I require your pump wisdom. I have very little pump knowledge - in very little, I mean that I know what they look like and that's about it. I am looking into adding a closed loop to my 90 gal. This closed loop will eventually be used on my new tank (150 gal (48x30x24) sometime in the somewhat foreseeable future) so I would like to have a little overlap. I will be using an OM that's rated for a max of 2400 GPH. Now my question is, in your opinion what is the most efficient, most quiet, and most dependable external pump out there? I have consulted others reefers on this and have their opinions. I would just like to hear as many opinions as I possibly can before I purchase something with a somewhat large price tag.
Thanks in advance for any input you have to add to the question posed above.

For your set up I would use a dart, great flow low power use. I have one and love it!

If you are using an OM....I would go with a 4 way OM on a Dart. I had this on my last 120 and it was awesome. Ran quiet, minimal energy use and had plenty of flow for the 120. Was a perfect combo for me.

I agree on the Dart. I use one on my big tank as a return pump. I had a Panworld on there at first, all I can say is NOISY. The Dart flows more and is almost silent. I have a friend's Killawatt here if you would like to know how much power it actually uses.

Poppy, I think I actually owned your 120 for a short time.

If you are maxed at 2400 GPH, go with the Seaquence Snapper.

2500 GPH for 98 watts, dead silent, no heat transfer and excellent customer service is hard to beat.

If you plan to go with a larger closed loop later, you could use a Dart and throtle it back for know. Interesting thing about throtleing back the GPH - it also reduces the power consumption.

That was quick. Thanks for the info guys and gals. As far as throttling it back, is this achieved by placing a shut-off valve on the return side of the pump?

A ball valve right after the pumps output does the trick.

Place a true union ball valve between the pump and return piping if you choose this route. It will allow you to close the valve and disconnect the plumbing with minimal leaks if any to service the pump when needed.

Also on the dart, I installed a valve on the bottom of it to drain the pump itself of water when it needed service. There is a drain there already for you with there plug. I just swapped it out for my own so I did not have to take a plug in and out.

I have two darts on my 120 and love them.

I run my CL with a OM 4 way and the other runs my returns, skimmer, ca reactor and two media reactors.

Sorry, I'm pretty happy with it...What's wrong with the drivers for the vortechs?

At this point I think it's the pump itseld. Would be odd for 2 drivers to be bad. Nonetheless, nothing works and I'm pretty frustrated.
