I dunno. We used to put them on ice, then have the dock people clean them at the end of the day. We almost always ate them the next day, actually - the guy who did our cleaning insisted that they tasted better after sitting over night.

Stripers, on the other hand, were usually totally consumed before the sun had set on the day they were caught. We'd toss them in some melted butter and old bay, then throw them over a super-hot charcoal fire. Blues usually got the same treatment, a day later.

If we caught flounder or cod, we'd bread and deep- or pan-fry them.

i think the only fish i have ever kept was trout from a stocked pond. my dad was/is a big catch and release fan, so that was instilled in me from a young age. i wouldn't mind trying striper though.

Striped bass are awesome. Probably my favorite cold-water Atlantic fish, as far as eating goes. The flavor is pretty mild, but they are just plain meaty - almost steak-like.

Striped Bass is probably my favorite fish. It is excellent sushi style. I like it baked in olive oil and white wine with some fresh basil and garlic thrown in, a little bread crumbs sprinkled on top.

My favorite bluefish recipe is to broil the fillets under a thick sauce of 50% Mayo and 50% horseradish. Surprisingly the horseradish doesn't come out too strong the sauce seems to reduce the strong flavor of the bluefish somewhat. Smoked bluefish I like also, but it tends to be even stronger tasting after smoking.

I've never had that. The only smoked fish I've really had has been lake-caught Salmon. There's a fishmonger near here (on Lake Ontario) that'll trade smoked salmon for your fresh-caught fish plus a few bucks. Best deal ever if you're not smoking it yourself, his stuff is awesome.

Jim,

Have you ever tried blackfish? It's even tastier than Striper's. Used to get them on occasion in my lobster pots, and didn't mind since they tasted so good

Yes! I take back my prior statement. Tautog is the best fish available in this area! Dredged in cornmeal and fried in light vegetable oil. Wow, now I'm hungry!

Odd, this thread started with a fish trying to eat a human and then moves to humans eating fish.
