i can see charlies' point of view with this but i think in paul's defense, he was just passing some good infor for our club members' benefit. if i see a good deal at Leigh Anne or at Reef Shop, i would like the rest of the club members to know about it too. we dont want to be reefcentral's police...we lost GAry already because of it so how much discount is Paul getting Dustin? j/k

Dont worry Paul, that just means those of us that get the newsletter will get better deals.
This site is nothing but a big commercial site anyways, whether its in the mainstream or in club areas.

I'm a bit confused here as some folks seem to be making their own interpretations of the rules of RC.

This type of post is perfectly acceptable under two conditions. a) The person making the post does not work for the commercial business. b) The person making the post has not been asked by the commercial business to make the post (or offered discounts, kickbacks..etc. in exchange for the advertising).

Some of the clubs on RC have relinquished the publicizing of local LFS deals to the president of the club or a board member that has been designated the "LFS liaison". The intent is to keep shill posters under control and allow the club officers to work closer with stores that support the club. It seems to work out well for many that have tried it.

So with that said and without evidence to the contrary, I see nothing wrong with this post. If either Dustin or Paul still want me to remove it, please PM me.

Don't quite see the hoopla. A short while back Paul posted about a sale on salt at local store and lots of us took advantage and thanked him profusely. There was no criticism then. If Leigh Ann has a sale, what better way to tell the comas community than here? If Steve runs a special on T5 or frags this is where we all read. I'd be thrilled if Travis posted that oddballs was pulling in a big order and we should all come running.

I agree it shouldn't be selective, but of all things you can't accuse Paul of that. I've seen him post on every store in town. I distinctly remember his post when Aquarium Concepts re opened. There was no criticism then. To suggest he has been in any way selective, at least in my short time here is absurd.

At the very least seems we could be a good bit more cautious in the way we speak to each other. Don't stop disaggreeing but the sarcasm and direct shots at people shown here just don't seem necessary.

100% correct!!! I see all sorts of special mentions for all the LFS that most of us frequent. Some maybe not as often as others, but hey, if you like a store, you're more likely to upsale that place or give em a good recomendation. Zoanuts has alot of goodies that deserve mentioning. I know I always mention the good stuff I get when at Wet Pets or Aquariums as well. And then we all see mentions for multiple online places and specials they run all the time, I don't care if the business is local or not, a good store deserves mentioning. Keep up the great work Zoanuts and Paul, keep doing all the foot work for me so I don't have to search for the good deals, lol

OK..lets let this drop and get back to the more useful posts on how to keep our corals and fish alive and happy.

I only wanted to pass along the opportunity for a good deal.

Same as I did for the cheap salt as mentioned above.

Thanks all...

Paul.

geesh what dont you get? Does everyone argue on this forum over petty stuff?
Paul is passing on a deal offered by Dustin. He was not asked to do so. He recieved the same email many of us did and yes copy and pasted it to those who may not get that email. Regardless if "Dustin might as well have said this himself, he didnt post this himself. No rules broken.

Are we to not post of certain purchases we made through any "commercial or otherwise" that are not sponsors? If not then we might as well cut out about half the things discussed here. Products, corals ect.

Heres a similar situation that could have resulted in you yourself doing what your objecting to.

Sorry Charlie,

COMAS isn't looking for tuna with good taste, but rather for tuna that tastes good...
