Seaclone Skimmer Works!!!!!!
Here is the thing ladies and gentleman.
I bought a seaclone skimmer from dfs and it wasnt inpressive as i thought. But heres the deal. I changed the air valve that it comes with for a home depot brass air valve for 5.96 and the froth is building up nicely awaiting the cup here in a sec.. i just changed it out. I have a 20 gallon high loaded sps tank.... i wouldnt recomment anything more than a 30 gallon for this.. just thought i would let everyone know. the rest of the skimmer i did not mod |

I modified my MJ1200 using the pre-impellar air injection mod that I found here and my Sea-Clown produces quite a bit of skimmate... I have it on my little 30 gal at my apartment and it does quite a good job.

The airstone mod really makes these things shine.

I don't think brass is a good idea for a saltwater tank as brass is an alloy made with copper......

Agree with Kody. I'd replace that pretty quickly. The salt can corrode brass and copper fairly quickly and start to leach into the tank. My boss used a thick gauge copper wire just to poke things around and we started getting copper readings within about a week and a half.

If you have it hanging on your tank, just wait till it overflows for no reason and floods your carpet... you'll change your mind.

I had a brass valve on the AIR intake of my seaclown too, no problems, just metal and water don't mix, the air and metal is fine.

i made a similar mod with my seaclose but used an air valve that came with one of my powerheads. I also cut the inner most tube about 2.5 inches and i wouldnt say it works great but it works. As far as overflowing...never had it happen to me but mine is in my sump. Tomorrow i get my new skimmer!! anyway, the seaclones arent bad for small tanks IMO
