Asm mini skimmer

Any good?
Thinking about getting it i need something short. Would this skimmer be good on a 55g mix reef?

I have one on my 65 and love it. There are a lot of ppl the bash it, But for the cost and performance I say money well spent. Do the gate valve mod on it, it's super easy, and also i bored out the venturi and extra 1/8" to let more air it and it also made a HUGE difference. The recirc mod also pretty easy, it's on the list to do next.

mesh mod the impellar as well, or better yet, get a sedra 2500 or qo1200 for it, and mesh mod either pump.

So it's probably the one of the best skimmers that is the same size? I'm short on space only have a 10g sump and 18" height inside the stand... Not many to choose from...
The gate valve mod is that the hole in the cup to drain in to a bottle? I planned on doing that.

No the gate valve mod is adding a gate valve the the riser pipe that the water exits from the skimmer. Google ASM gate valve mod, and then go to the pics.

Oh i know what your talking about now.
Someone told me to get a aquaC skimmer because ASM aren't as good. (I don't like aquaC) but is this skimmer worth the money? I'm just a high school student so i can't afford to get a crappy skimmer lol

The mini G is way better than the Remora or Urchin. I ran a urchin Pro for the first 3 years, then I bought the mini G and it was night and day!!!!!!

it's not a crappy skimmer IMO! It's worth the money! As soon as you get it, do the gate valve mod first so you have better control over the head foam inside the skimmer body. Then drill out the venturi 1\8" and you'll be pumped at the amount of skimmate you'll pull out!

I'm a HUGE fan of ASM skimmers not only for their price, but also for ease of modding them!

The Mini has proven to break very easily if you try to drill the side to recirc it (i broke a couple of bides when trying to recirc them). I think that it is an underperformer. For the same money, you can get into one of the other low-cost needlewheel skimmers.

Thanks that's great to know... I seen the ASM site says they'll do any of the mods. I'm sure they want alot though... Well my problem is space... don't have much height for one

For a 55g I don't think you need a bigger pump. I run the stock pump on my 65 with out problems.

You can get into one of those low cost off brand needle wheel skimmers, but....... well I just personally know the babyG works well and those low cost off brands who knows what kinda performance you're gonna get.

That was me. I was the one that created that web site. I like the ASM skimmers, just not a fan of the Mini or the G4.

Really? Nice! i hope that those glitches get fixed it was annoying clicking and almost everything was a to the same thing
