OT: Guitar
Any guitar players want to recommend a good intermediate level acoustic guitar? I have been playing for 10 years and my Yamaha is getting old. My price range is 300-500. Any suggestions?
Here are the two I've been looking at: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone...52-i1150092.gc http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ovation-...33-i1149079.gc Thanks

I'm partial to the Ovation Acoustic Electric. It feels effortless when holding down the strings to the frets...makes it easier to walk your fingers when transitioning from chord to chord JMO.

I would also suggest an ovation acoustic-electric. Very very nice sound at a good price.
Either of these are nice. One just has a little fancier electronix( tuner and stuff). http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ovation,...tar,300-500.gc

This is just my opinion... I've owned an Ovation and bought it because it "looked cool" (shallow body, cutaway, grey sunburst). The synthetic bowl back made the guitar really "twangy" - tough to get the guitar to project sound. It was a little better when plugged into an acoustic amp but still not a fulfilling sound to my taste.
I haven't played this Epiphone jumbo but I'm guessing the sound will be much "larger" compared to the Ovation due to the body size. This guitar will definitely feel abnormally large if you typically play a standard dreadnought or concert body. It'll just take some getting used to. If you're willing to spend a little more, check out the Breedlove Atlas series guitars. You can find these at Guitar Center as well. They produce a very well balanced tone (full/deep/crisp), even in their concert style body. I was very surprised with the sound out of these guitars at that price range. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Search/D...=breedlove&o=1 Remember, each guitar sound differently - even if it's the same brand/model/wood. Go to a guitar store and play some of these and see which one you like best. Good luck!

Your the second person who has recommended Breedlove. I'll have to give them a try.

I'm not trying to make your decision more complicated but I would suggest this Takamine for your price range.
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Takamine...01-i1148956.gc I have taken Takamine's on the road and havent had any real problems with them. I've recorded with them (Digital/Analog) and they sound pretty good. They hold up well too. Having said that, the best way to choose is to just sit down and play the ones your are interested in or are within your budget. You might be surprised with your final outcome.

I purchased a Breedlove Atlas Series AC25/SR Plus Acoustic-Electric Guitar approx 4 months ago and am still in love with it. I have had a Taylor big baby, Epiphone & Washburn, the Breedlove puts them all to shame. I do agree with slobound, every guitar is different be sure to play them. Also remember guitar center has around 15% to play with as far as list price goes, talk them down as far as you can then ask for free setup & some nice strings.

I played back in high school.. I liked the Ovation but I couldn't afford it back then. I ended up with some old Gibson but I couldn't remember what model it was.....

Been a long time for me, so I don't know whats new, but I can tell you that the novelty of an Ovation wore out. I find that it was twangy too and that after I learned what I wanted to hear out of a guitar, that it wasn't it.
I've always wanted a Jumbo....... ![]() |

A guitar is a very personal thing. I recommend you play as many as you can. You will know it when you find the right one. Any good guitar dealer should be able to take 40% off the MSRP and still make a good profit(but they don't like to admit it). So if a guitar has a list price of $1,000 you should be able to get it for $600+tax. Don't be afraid to haggle over the price. My favorite guitar store is Jim's Music in Irvine. James is the head of the acoustic guitar section, he will take good care of you.
