nanoreeferpdx's 3gal pico (Tom deco)

My Tom deco 3 that I ordered from Drsfostersmith arrived yesterday. Setting it up was so much fun. I already have two nanos at home so this one's going on my desk at work. All the live rocks, water, and live stock were taken from my established tanks; the sand is new. I have more corals to add later once it's set up at work; the tank is still on my desk at home. I'm not planning to keep any fish in this system since it's so small; will probably add a shrimp to keep it interesting though; maybe a cleaner shrimp? I painted the back of the tank black to hide the filter. Love this system, it's so easy and comes with everything you'd need to get started, just wish it's glass instead of plastic though, it scratches so easily.

These tanks are pretty neat. How about a little clown gobie? I don't think the cleaner shrimp would fair too well solo. Good luck with your new pico!

I have the same set-up, my rockwork even looks like yours! I have a hi-fin goby and 3 sexy shrimp. I removed the filter media and kept filter for flow. I do 10% water changes twice a week. Good luck with yours, let us know what you do!

Been bringing little frags from home to add to this little tank, looking good so far. My coworkers are amazed of how colorful the corals are (most of the have never seen a reef tank), but they said it needs a fish. So i asked a local fish store to order me a hi-fin goby and a red headed goby. Will these guys get along in a little space like this or should i leave one at home?

It looks like ricordia..not a nem.... and some xenia on the bottom right? Nice tank.. I'm looking towards setting up a 10g.. interesting to see what people stock in these small setups! Good luck!

Ya, it's a green ricordia, shriveled because it was just added to the tank. Current stock list is: hammer head coral, xenia, orange and green ricordea, 3 tiny frags of zoanthid and yellow polyp, 4 tiny blue legged hermits, a scarlet hermit, 2 snails. Will add a small goby or two when they come in.

Very nice. I was thinking about buying one of these set ups. When you take updated photos, could you take one of the filter that came with it. Does the filter seem like enough flow?

Rock work looks great.

I've had mine set up since april and I'm not sure you want two gobies in there, I'm content with my hi-fin and shrimp. I can tell you that the entire back of my tank is covered in coralline. The only real problem I've ever had with it, other than how easily it gets scratched, is the bulb died after six months. The bulb is not removable from the fixture, the whole thing needs to be replaced. I strong-armed a chain to sell me the fixture from a kit on the shelf. I have since been unable to find it online and 2 days ago contacted the manufacturer about it. I want to have a spare, just in case.

Nice rockwork...

I think I have the same light (not fancy silver) from an old FW tank of mine... It is currently my fuge light.

Do you know what bulb comes with that kit?
